We live in an age of constant communication. And that’s great, because it means we don’t have to wait to talk to our friends or family. We can just text them — whenever we want! However, sometimes group texts go a bit too far. Perhaps you are on the receiving end of one that involves crude jokes, or another that sends so many messages that your phone storage fills up with them.
Fortunately, there are ways of getting out of these group texts while keeping your friends as friends. Here’s how you can remove yourself from a group text and not feel weird about it.
How to Remove Yourself from a Group Text on Android (Samsung)
Like iPhone users, you cannot just remove yourself entirely from a group text on Android/Samsung. Instead, you have to mute or disable notifications for the group chat.
Leave (Hide) the conversation.
While you can’t delete a group text, you can leave (hide) it anytime without feeling bad about it. That’s because it’s not as though you’ve done anything wrong. It’s not your fault that the conversation is happening in the first place, so you don’t need to feel embarrassed or guilty about leaving it. If you’re in a group text that isn’t relevant to you, feel free to leave it at any time.
That way, you won’t get distracted by messages you don’t care about anyway. You won’t lose any friends by doing this, either. So, whenever you’re in a group text that is going way too far, just leave it. You’ll have more time for the things that matter to you.
- Tap on the group conversation
- Then tap on the "More" icon, the three dots
- Then tap "Hide Conversation."
- Alternately, you can tap and hold the group chat, then tap "Hide Conversation."
Turn off group text notifications.
No matter how many messages pop up in a group text, there’s no way to respond to them all. That being said, there are ways to interact with the group chat, like deleting messages after they’ve been sent. However, before you can delete anything, you need to turn off notifications for the conversation.
One of the easiest ways to do this is by muting the notifications for the group text.
- To do this, long-press the group text and then tap the notification icon. You can either mute the entire conversation or delete it from there.
- Alternatively, open the stock messaging app and select the group text. Then, tap the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner. Tap on "Notification Type > Custom Notification >"Notifications".
You can also block people within the group chat. However, they will not be able to message or call you.
As you can see, there are many ways to get out of a group text. You may have to try more than one method, but you can do it. You don’t have to let a group text take over your phone or your life. You can remove yourself from it — whatever it is — and go back to living your life.
No matter how much you try to ignore a disruptive group text, you may feel like you have no choice but to leave it. With these tips, you can remove yourself from that group text and focus on whatever it is you’d rather be doing.
