Samsung Galaxy S Duos 3-VE: Samsung’s Silent Upgrade to the Duos 3

After following a not-expected market sales ratio for Galaxy S Duos 3 launched last September, Samsung has quietly launched an upgraded version of the handset modeled as S Duos 3-VE recently. The phone has been tagged at a much lower price than its predecessor thus marking the start of Samsung’s budget phone campaign. While the S Duos 3-VE only excels its predecessor in terms of processor, it still lacks basic features offered by rival smartphones at the same price range. Let us have a look at the features of the Samsung upgrade.

Features and Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 3-VE works on an updated 1.2GHz dual processor unlike the 1GHz processor of S Duos 3. The dual microSIM based smartphone lacks details about 3G connectivity in its official website which, if true, is the major backdrop of the new S Duos 3-VE and also is quite surprising because even its predecessor supports 3G network connection. The phone is powered by Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS and flaunts a 4” capacitive multi-touch TFT display with 480X800 resolution.  The handset’s memory comprises of a 512MB RAM and 4GB ROM which can be further expanded to 64GB similarly like the Galaxy S Duos 3. The phone is equipped with a 5MP rear camera supported by LED flash to allow photos in the low-light environment but misses a secondary camera available in S Duos 3. The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 3-VE comes preloaded with a 1500 mAh battery with drains quickly on heavy usage. Other features of the phone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor, Light sensor, 14 language support etc.

Design and Quality

Samsung hasn’t made any major changes on the Galaxy S Duos 3-VE than its predecessor in terms of design and has almost kept it same. While the phone weighs almost double to the S Duos 3, it is slightly larger but thicker in terms of dimension. The Galaxy S Duos 3 had a dimension of 12.1 x 6.3 x 10.8 cm but S Duos 3-VE boasts a dimension of 14.5 x 8.5 x 6 cm. Samsung has never compromised with the quality of its handsets and the same goes for the upgraded S Duos 3-VE. The back of the handset comprises of the rear camera along with the LED Flash accompanied by the speaker. The 4” touchscreen adorns the front but lacks the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass available in rival handsets. Charging is allowed through the microUSB port while other ports include a 3.5mm Stereo Earjack port.

OS and Tech

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 3-VE is supported by Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS similarly like the Duos 3 variant. The smartphone also excels its predecessor in terms of sensors. While the Galaxy S Duos 3 had only an Accelerometer under its sensor features, its successor boasts a Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Gyroscope along with the Accelerometer. The S Duos 3-VE uses a few updated technologies like GLONASS for navigation and Bluetooth 4.0 but again misses the feature of Wi-Fi direct unlike the S Duos 3. Also, the phone lacks a water resistant screen which is safety benchmark for daily usage.

Camera and Multimedia

The quality of Samsung cameras is what differentiates them from the ones offered by India-based smartphone manufacturers. The Galaxy S Duos 3-VE is no exception. The Samsung smartphone boasts a primary 5MP camera with pictures captured at a resolution of 2592×1944 pixels. The videos recorded are rich in terms of quality and can be shot in a low-light environment due to the presence of LED flash. The camera features 7 advanced shot modes but lacks front-facing secondary camera which is again surpassed by its predecessor.  The S Duos 3-VE supports all major audio and video formats and lets you enjoy local radio station music due to the presence of FM Radio with RDS technology.

Battery and Memory

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 3-VE is supported by a 1500 mAh battery which loses the race against rival handsets which offer a lot better battery for heavy usage. So unless your phone undergoes heavy usage, you don’t need to worry about charging and use your phone interruption free. With the advent of budget smartphones with high-end features, the requirement of battery has increased quite a lot and Samsung has to upgrade its battery support to expect good market sales. With its 512 MB RAM, the Galaxy S 3-VE fails to provide high-end gaming performance but is enough to serve all basic actions, videos, and applications. The phone is equipped with 4GB internal memory with the external memory expandable up to 64GB. Enjoy endless photos, videos and music without even worrying to run out of storage capacity. Also, install numerous applications directly to the massive external storage supported by microSD card.
